Once again our star coach, Terry Parker, has scored another win with his determination and enthusiasm for helping young people with disabilities. After last year’s BBC Children in Need Terry applied for funding to help the continued development of his ‘Tennis for Everyone Club’ programme. He has recently been awarded £4000 which has been used to coach children with special needs.
The Club, under Terry’s direction, has once again applied for more funding from this year’s BBC appeal to help continue with this very special club’s development programme.
As part of the BBC Children In Need Appeal for this year Terry, along with pupils from the Tewkesbury Alderman Knight School, put on a demonstration for BBC Gloucestershire. The session included mini tennis, played indoors, before going outside to play on a full size court.
Terry intends to return to the school for another 19 sessions, after which he hopes that some of the young Alderman Knight pupils will be able to join an able-bodied club.
A couple of seasons ago Terry was voted the BTCA ‘Coach of the Year’ for his work with the disabled in the County. Over the last few years Terry has built up a small team of dedicated coaches and helpers who have helped him with his crusade to enable all to play tennis.
Pupils from St Rose’s School in Stroud, along with Paternoster in Cirencester and Belmont School in Cheltenham are among the young people who have benefitted from Terry’s enthusiasm.
The broadcast by BBC Gloucester, as part of the lead in to the Children In Need Appeal, can be heard during the week commencing the 22nd. October.
