First Mini Tennis District Competition a great success
Young Players from South Cotswold Clubs and East Glos Club enthusiastically joined in the first team event of this series to be played at the Oxstalls Indoor Tennis Centre.
Teams and coaches elected to play the event at Mini Tennis Orange level. So the court was shortened, lower pressure balls were used and after some fun tennis games the matches began. The players soon mastered the numerical scoring helped by able referees and coaches and some excellent matchplay was contested. The scores were so close at the end of 2 hours, East Glos Club winning by just one point.
The two teams were to be congratulated on their enthusiasm and playing ability.
This was the first of 20 or more district competitions to be held over the winter months at Mini Tennis level. The next fixture is N. Cotswold v Tewkesbury and a week later Gloucester v the Forest of Dean.
South Cotswold team from Cirencester, Hill & Valley & Lechlade Tennis Clubs:
Joshua Baker, Oliver Lockey, James Sandiland, Jenny Eales, James Barry, Max Mclellan, Ben Williamson and Oliver George
East Glos Team:
Hebe Brunt, Samantha Collins, Mary Hartley, Jack Panton, Rubin Stone and Nick Chittock
Coach Penny Allberry and captain of the South Cotswold team commented:
"This an excellent way of getting children to play competitively. There was real enthusiasm enjoyed in a team atmosphere."
Coach Pete Collins and captain of the East Glos team commented:
"What an experience for them all! A perfect mixture! Heaps of fun with a pinch of competivenenss!"

The Rules of Tennis from the ITF
Since we've had many requests to include a full listing of the Rules of Tennis on the tennis-gloucestershire website...here it is. This is a pdf file that you can download and view on screen or print out. Incidentally, just a bit of background information on the ITF...from their website... www.itftennis.com
'The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the governing body of tennis, one of the few truly global sports. It is the ITF's objective to promote and develop the game of tennis to make it a truly global sport available to all in a non-racial, non-political form and to preserve the integrity and independence of tennis as a sport.'
