Let, Set, Net!

We recently put on the site the rules of the game. Well the BBC have just run a feature, well worth a read and very nicely presented. Did you know...'there are a number of theories about the birth of tennis. Some historians date it as far back as Egyptian times. They say the Arabic word for the palm of the hand, rahat, is the origin of the word racquet. But the most common view is that it was a crude courtyard ball game invented by 11th or 12th century French monks.' [BBC Sports - Tennis Rules]

Chipping Campden’s major revamp

It is a pleasure to report that Chipping Campden Tennis Club - Gloucestershire’s Club of the Year in 2001 - has received a £41,666 grant from the National Lottery towards its Club development. In addition to the Lottery funding Cotswold District Council has given the Club a grant of £25,000 and the Lawn tennis Association a further £10,000 to help. These sums, with the monies raised by the Club will allow the C.C.T.C. to build another new court and to install floodlighting along with other refurbishments.
Congratulations must go to James Jepson, the Club Chairman, and his Committee along with all the 210 members, both senior and junior, for the two and a half year’s hard work in achieving this development.
We all look forward to the opening of the new facilities in the near future and hearing about the junior, senior and veteran’s development programmes.

Tennis Equipment guide

An interesting article from the BBC's Sport Acadamy web pages. Did you know that Aussie star Lleyton Hewitt is paid $16.5m to wear the Nike label! Aside from that, there's some useful info about equipment, especially if your budget is limited. [BBC Sports - Tennis Equipment Guide]
