Cheltenham Junior Open Tennis Tournament - Grand Prix Status awarded
East Gloucestershire Club is pleased to announce that this year’s Cheltenham Junior Open Tennis Tournament has been awarded Grand Prix status for its U10, U12, U14 and U16 events. As a result the club is hopeful of attracting a larger number of high calibre players from across the UK for the annual tournament which runs from Easter Monday 12th April to Saturday 17th April 2004.
Having requested feedback from players, this year for the first time, there will be a staggered draw. This enables the lower-rated players to be involved in the early stages and have the chance to qualify for later rounds, where the higher rated players come in. The awarding of Grand Prix status means that players in all four age groups can accumulate points during the course of the Grand Prix season with the top players in each group qualifying for Masters events in the autumn.
Entry forms are now available on a special tournament website:
www.chelt-jun-tourn.org.uk
The draw takes place on 29 March at which time the club will issue further details of the competitors involved.
The Cheltenham Junior Open tournament has been running since the 1930’s. Previous entrants have included Tim Henman and Jo Durie.
