Richard Owen - County futures player
Our very own Richard Owen (age 11) was part of the GB Tennis Team for an International Tournament last week at the Queenswood School, Hatfield, Herts. GB vs Belgium/Denmark/Sweden.
Simon Pender our County Performance Officer was delighted that Richard had been selected for such a prestigious event.
Also Dan Shiner another young player was part of the Senior County Cup Mens Team in Cambridge last week. Dan played two matches, again all at GLTA wish to congratulate these two fine young players.

Tennis in the Park, 22nd and 23rd July, 1pm to 4pm.
As a result of John McEnroe’s recent interest in tennis provision in Gloucester City, the LTA working with Gloucester City Council are offering city youngsters 2 afternoons of tennis in Gloucester Park.
The tennis event has been promoted in all city schools and to local community groups. Fun tennis activities for all the family will be led by a team of LTA coaches from Oxstalls Indoor tennis centre.
Visiting on the day will be Funke Awoderu, LTA manager of the Inner City Tennis Programme who will be meeting Gloucester City Council Officials and will also be keen to see Gloucester City’s response to Tennis in the Park.
Notes:
(The LTA City Tennis Programme aims to provide opportunities to play tennis in inner city areas where there is an under provision of established Tennis Clubs - giving the people in deprived communities the chance to play the game. To date there are 23 City Tennis Clubs.)

The Tennis Event at the 2004 Olympics
The 2004 Athens Olympics are drawing closer. The Tennis Event is scheduled for August 15th to 22nd at the Olympic Tennis Center, Maroussi. This will also be the venue for the wheelchair tennis tournament of the Paralympics, scheduled for 19th to 26th September. The International Tennis Federation have recently revamped their Olympic Tennis Event web site giving plenty of information abut the tournament and the tennis names who will be in attendance. Well worth a look!
