Barry Tugwood - Tennis Manager Avon and Gloucestershire

Barry has been the development officer in Avon for the past five years and this year with the appointments by the LTA of tennis managers became the tennis manager responsible for Avon and Gloucestershire. Clare (new club development officer-see below) and Barry will be working on a programme for both counties that will benefit all and although Clare will make Gloucestershire her first priority, there are many projects that can benefit all aspects of tennis in both counties and these will be developed and used for both Avon and Gloucestershire to achieve the best for all clubs and players alike.

Farewell to Chris Rivers - Club Development Officer

As many of you are aware Chris Rivers the county club development officer retired at the end of May. Chris served this county so very well for the past decade and will be missed by many clubs/players/parents. The GLTA executive and council knew that finding a replacement for such a special person would be difficult but receiving a considerable number of applications and holding interviews another lady will take on the role of CDO. So Au Revoir Chris, I am sure we shall see you around, we will let you have a rest before phoning you for volunteer duties!!!.

Clare Clarke - Club Development Officer for Gloucestershire and Avon has been appointed

Since leaving Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education in 1995, Clare has worked for Bath and North East Somerset Council, initailly as an athletics coach working in primary schools, then as a sports development officer and most recently as a sports development manager. Although Clare does not have a background of tennis, we are sure that she will bring her own expertise of development to the county and continue the work with clubs, schools and local authorities to the benefit of all. Welcome Clare.

Farewell to Simon Pender - County Coach

After three years Simon has decided to return to his native Cornwall and assist their performance programme. We are very sorry that Simon has left us and can only thank him for all his hard work over the past three years and reiterate, that when he joined us, we knew that he was a very special young man with a wealth of tennis experience and knowledge and we would not hold onto him for long before others would be trying to coax him away. Cornwall won and we lost and we wish Simon all the very best for the future and look forward to some 'friendly Junior Matches' with Cornwall.
