Small village serves up four aces
It's been a great year so far for Beckford Tennis Club. They were awarded club of the year in Gloucestershire this year and on 6th May Michael Angell was on hand to open their fourth court (photos below).
The club just keeps on growing as these statistics from Terry Sharp, the club chairman, will testify.
- Membership increased by nearly 25%
- 13 senior teams playing over 150 matches across three counties
- Junior success, holding two County Championships
- Topping division one in the mixed winter league
- Building a fourth hard court entirely financed from internal funds
The future holds even more, with plans for floodlighting courts three and four, a new clubhouse, more junior/senior play, more links with local clubs and expanding membership whilst keeping that small club feel.
To contact the club you can call the club secretary Tina Harrington 01386 881005 or visit www.beckford.totaltennis.net
We wish Beckford Tennis Club every success with the future.

Gloucestershire appoint new club development officer
Rob Dearing has taken up the vacant post of Club Development Officer.
Rob has an extensive background in promoting and marketing tennis both on a local and national level. During four years in the commercial world of tennis marketing Rob was involved in managing projects including local club and community activity, public events, corporate sponsorship and national governing body schemes such as the Wimbledon Kids Zone.
Rob is a qualified CCA coach and has previously worked with clubs and community projects across the South West.
Most recently he spent 18 months working and travelling overseas including a 10 month placement working in Sydney. After fulfilling his dream to travel the world Rob is very excited about working back within South West tennis and is looking forward to meeting coaches, parents, players and tennis providers in the area.
Rob will be contacting clubs to discuss the support the LTA can offer and will be working closely with positive tennis partners in the area to increase participation, improve facilities and develop new opportunities for tennis provision.
Rob takes up his post at the start of June 2006. You can contact Rob at the Gloucestershire county office (please see the contact us section).
