Competitions update
Our competitions section now has a good round up of tennis events including the Mini Orange league winter 2006/07 club fixtures just added. This is a team event set up and run by Pete Collins and the GLTA operating throughout the winter season. A useful set of fixtures for our Gloucestershire juniors.

C&G Gloucestershire Junior County Closed 2006
The Junior County Closed 2006 took place at East Glos Tennis Club and Well Place from Monday 28th August to Friday 1st September, this event saw nearly 150 juniors from all over the county take part in the county's biggest junior tennis tournament. Firstly thank you to all the juniors who competed and took part, we hope you all had an enjoyable week and learnt lots of vital skills to aid you in any other tournaments you enter.
I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the committee who gave up their time to help make this tournament a success, assistant tournament referees Peter Collins, Ash Smith, Jon Rolnik, Ian Reid and Adam Newton along with Steve Roberts who did a fantastic job as chairman of the committee and Graeme Adams who did a wonderful job as tournament referee. Thank you all!
There were some great individual and double performances from all juniors involved. The week started off well with games running on time and the weather remaining sunny. This good luck with the weather seemed to continue most days and play was only interrupted a few times. However, finals day saw beautiful sunshine all day which meant there were no interruptions to play and all final matches were carried out on time (you can download a full set of results PDF).
Each year the Junior County Closed nominates other successes in the tournament, we nominate one player for the Wronski Cup which is awarded to a player who has shown sportsmanship and fairplay throughout the tournament, this year the Cup went to Aaron MacDonald. We also award the Edney Shield to a player who has performed above and beyond expectations, this year the Shield went to Rupert Curtis, well done to both of you.
The Junior County Closed also awards four best newcomer certificates which entitle the winner to a free coaching session with one of the counties licensed coaches, this years winners were Jack Styman, Jason Richards, Olivia Horn and Harley Franklin so well done to you all we hope you enjoy your free coaching session.
If you are a parent and would like to help out on next year's committee, we are always looking for volunteers. We particularly value the opinions of parents on our committee so that the county closed is successful and is run how you want it to be. It doesn't matter how much time you are able to give we appreciate all help before, during and after the tournament.
For more details contact Morgana at the county office 01452 396644 or email .
We will advertise next years county closed dates as soon as we receive them so you can mark it in your 2007 diaries and calendars.
Many thanks to our sponsors of the junior county closed, Cheltenham & Gloucester for once again supporting this very successful event, without their help this event would not be possible.

East Gloucester claim Kia NCL double
East Gloucester became the first team in the 13-year history of the Kia National Club League to carry away both the men's and ladies' titles at Bournemouth's West Hants Club on Sunday. This is a fantastic achievement and everyone here at the GLTA would like to pass on their congratulations to both teams at East Glos Tennis Club.
You can read the full story on the LTA website, and follow it in the Gloucestershire Echo.
