Gloucestershire Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) Mini Tennis Xmas Xtravaganza 20th December 2006

County youngsters put their tennis skills into practice at the GLTA Mini Tennis Xmas Xtravaganza 2006. The annual GLTA Mini Tennis Xmas Xtravaganza took place at Oxstalls Indoor Tennis Centre on Wednesday 20th December.
Mini tennis clubs from around the County were invited to put their tennis skills into practice competing against other clubs in this fun filled Christmas event.

Teams of mini red tennis players from East Glos, Hill and Valley, Match Makers, Oxstalls and Painswick came festively dressed for the days' tennis skills and games. All the children were treated to a surprise visit from Santa who even came on court to join in the fun.

Overall winners for the day were the team from Hill and Valley tennis club, Chedworth. The team from Oxstalls picked up the award for Fairplay which was in memory of one of the county's coaches; Pete Bolton who sadly passed away in 2006 and he had been a big supporter of this event in previous years. Thanks to our county sponsor, Courtstall Services Ltd. represented by Eric Page, Managing Director who presented all the awards and prizes.

Barry Tugwood, Tennis Manager for Avon and Gloucestershire said, "We at GLTA were delighted with the success of this event, young players who access a mini tennis programme at their local club had the opportunity to showcase their talents within a great, festive, team environment. We would encourage and welcome young children to join their local tennis programme and get onto the winning pathway."

There was a good write up of the event in The Gloucestershire Echo, just follow the link to read it online.
